“Recently Drew provided our agency with a much needed organizational assessment and training for youth substance use disorder interventions and treatment. His comprehensive assessment allowed him to focus on the specific trainings that had the most impact on our ability to identify and treat substance use disorders throughout our agency. Drew successfully trained all our direct care teams including youth development specialists, social workers, psychologist and other clinicians. We are better prepared to treat the youth that we serve as a result of his excellent work. Drew was the first and only person I called when the need for substance use disorder training became a priority at our agency. Drew has years of experience in successfully designing and managing substance use disorder programs. Pair his experience with his teaching and educating skills and he is one of the best in this field. I have had the privilege of working with many terrific clinical leaders in my career. Drew is among the best in the area of substance use disorders and I highly recommend his services. You and your agency will be very happy that you selected Drew to help you.”

"This letter is written in admiration of Drew Dutton’s efforts on an instructional module series we have developed on behalf of the Virginia Department of Education. In January 2022, the Center for Implementation and Evaluation of Education Systems received a grant to, among other projects, create a module series to inform Virginia school personnel on substance use disorder and opioid addiction. We were pleased to receive a strong recommendation for Drew’s services from an expert researcher in the field. We knew that we needed an individual in close and current touch with
adolescents and their families who were struggling with substance use, well-being, and mental health issues. He came highly recommended not only as a therapist, but also as a teacher and
professor. We are indebted to Drew for taking on this consultancy and thrilled that he was able to meet our short timeline, working around his job duties and vacation to do so. We must also commend his collaborative nature as he worked with our editors to create parity between the storyboards and meet the specifics requested by our client."
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Drew in many roles: a classmate, a coworker, a supervisor, and now as a colleague in the SUD field. Within each role and with each individual interaction, Drew continuously proves himself to be a man of integrity, sincerity, objectivity, and compassion. As an excellent and creative clinician, Drew passionately helps those who are suffering with mental illness and substance use disorders seek and find relief. Even more, he injects a special energy and curiosity for a healthy and sustained recovery by eliciting the strengths of the individual he is working with. As a supervisor, Drew utilizes the same approach by reflecting on and pulling out the sometimes hidden strengths of the supervisee. He has certainly made me a better clinician and I highly regard his work and consultation today.”
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Drew in various settings over the last seven years, and I have learned so much from him personally and professionally. From his calm, supportive approach in crisis intervention to mentoring university practicum students, I have witnessed Drew’s approach bring out the best in others on multiple occasions. He has exceptional capabilities in building on the strengths and best hopes of individuals so they can see their potential from a different point of view. This is such a unique and helpful shift toward changing the narrative for those seeking help and those on their journey to becoming a counselor. Drew was my supervisor for several years when I worked in the residential treatment setting for substance use disorders. I learned so much from seeing him work with clients and during supervision, and I appreciate how his approach is one of patience, building hope, and focusing on what’s working. I continue to implement many things I’ve learned from him in my own practice.

“Drew’s approach to supervision can best be described as relational and strengths-based. He has an unmatched ability to help new clinicians identify and capitalize on their strengths and translating these into practice. Drew has a wealth of experience and knowledge of a variety of evidence-based approaches to counseling that combined with his relational skill set make him an excellent mentor and support to supervisees and colleagues.”
